Meet Mavenoid — Q&A with Mavenoid's Head of Marketing Jonathan Koo

Jonathan Koo joined Mavenoid as Head of Marketing in March 2021. Prior to Mavenoid, he led marketing teams at Thnks and AdRoll. Jonathan brings over 10 years of experience and is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to leadership and creative problem-solving. Read on for his thoughts on his experience with building out the marketing team at Mavenoid.

What made you interested in joining a company like Mavenoid?
The problem we’re solving. I think everyone's had at least one terrible technical support experience— that time you were stuck on hold for 2 hours, had to repeat yourself to a chatbot 5/6 times, had to wait days for someone to come service your appliance, or even having to return/recall a product in person.

In an era when you can google and get instantaneous answers to nearly everything, it seems antiquated that for technical support— particularly for physical products— we accept such a poor experience. Mavenoid wants to change that.

What does your role entail?
I always view myself as a player+coach. My main roles are to be marketing’s voice within Mavenoid’s senior leadership, provide strategic guidance and vision for the marketing team, and to ensure our team’s alignment with the overall business strategy. But I also love diving in with the marketing team: helping to plan and execute new campaigns, setting up new tools and workflows, and connecting directly with our customers.

Can you tell us something about yourself that not many people know?
I really enjoy cooking and baking. Graduating college I could barely make a bowl of cereal, but now I find myself planning out multi-course meals and baking loaf cakes, just because. I’ve splurged on way too many baking gadgets that won’t fit in my tiny NYC kitchen.

What do you think is unique about the marketing team at Mavenoid?
I could name a few things— the people, the challenge, our mission— all are true but could sound generic. Instead, I’ll say our willingness to try new things. Have an idea for a unique event? Let’s plan it. Need resources to test a new channel? Sure. Experimentation should be built into our process because if we don't try new things that make us uncomfortable, we aren't being ambitious enough.

What do you envision the Mavenoid marketing team looking like in a year?
We should be well into the hyper-growths stage of our marketing journey. We’ll have a strong core team and marketing foundation, a willingness to invest into the group, and an eagerness to experiment and push ourselves to approach B2B marketing differently— trying new, unique ideas and campaigns in the process.
