Fullstack Engineer

About us

Here at Mavenoid, we are building a virtual product experience that helps customers configure, use, and troubleshoot their products. With some of the world’s most iconic brands as clients and $10 million in funding, we're reinventing technical support. Our goal is to help customers repair more and replace less, get more out of their products, and never wait on hold again. Founded in 2017 by a team from Palantir and Google, Mavenoid has quickly established itself as the leader in tech-support automation. We are located in Stockholm but doesn't mean you have to be - this is a remote-friendly workplace.

The role

We’re looking for an experienced Fullstack Engineer to join the early-stage startup fray. You will be one of the first dedicated engineers on the team, which means that you will have real ownership over features linking our web platform together with AI/ML services built by our data scientists, persistence stores for product state, and other cloud services. You will be designing and implementing new functionality in a sustainable way, working closely with the rest of the team. You will take an active role in proposing, scoping, designing, implementing and shipping features to maximise the impact of the product.

Our backend is running TypeScript, backed by PostgreSQL and deployed to Google Cloud and Heroku. Our frontend is a TypeScript React app, using Emotion and our own design system for styling. We have a GraphQL API in-between with generated types, so we’re type-safe from the database to the CSS.
Parts of our infrastructure are maintained as open-source projects by Mavens, everything else is in a monorepo living on GitHub with extensive CI checks that have a focus on speed.
Our AI/ML services are built in Python.

Responsibilities

You are a seasoned developer with both depth and breadth of experience, with multiple major projects under your belt, but also the experience of working on a single product for at least a couple years to see through the consequences of design decisions. You should be able to work independently and to lead engineering efforts. The specific tools you know do not matter as much as the ability to pick up new technologies quickly.

  • Work with the team to define, scope and prioritise product features to be developed.
  • Build and maintain new and existing features end-to-end, from database structure and migrations to frontend components that are both performant and fitting our UI/UX guidelines
  • Iterate and suggest improvements to the product

Qualifications

  • You have a track record of building complex web products on both sides of the stack.
  • You have an excellent understanding of JavaScript/TypeScript and its ecosystem.
  • You are able to take complete ownership of a feature or a project.
  • You are familiar with common data structures and fundamental algorithms.
  • You are intellectually curious and honest.
  • You collaborate efficiently with people in various roles (UI/UX designers, Data Engineers, Marketing, Sales).

This role is remote-eligible from countries in UTC 2+/- hours time zone.

What we offer

The upsides of joining a startup early: outsized impact, real ownership and accountability, hard problems, faster learning, quicker decisions, less bureaucracy, and meaningful equity combined with fair compensation.

  • Remote-first policy. Work from home or anywhere, or if you prefer from one of our offices in Stockholm, Sweden or New York City, US.
  • Remote/home setup: latest generation Mac, large screens, ergonomic desks/chairs and other hardware you need.
  • A career opportunity where your professional growth is in focus: unlimited books, 3 days off per year to focus on personal development and up to $2,400 for courses, conferences and other learning material.
  • Regular company events and trips, online and remote activities.

Culture

  • Spikiness – You have one superpower, and we don't care if you are weak in other areas
  • Intellectual Honesty – You are radical about truth and candid to a fault
  • Selective Intensity – You are an 80/20 person who gets the right things done
  • Eternal Troubleshooting – You don’t tolerate brokenness, and can establish loops that identify and eliminate it
